The Honda CR-V is available in three trim levels, including the RVi, RVSi andi-CTDi. Each level has its own selection of features: the RVi is the most basic model, the RVSi is midrange and the i-CTDi is a superior model with a luxurious range of extras.
External specifications
While a car’s engine determines its drive quality, the exterior is a large part of its appeal..SUVs are not usually known for their subtlety, but the new Honda CR-V makes the most of its size. Now lower, thinner, shorter and sleeker than previous models, the CR-V is available in a number of colours, ranging from alabaster metallic silver to royal blue pearl. Moreover, with its 2007 facelift, the Honda CR-V removed the spare wheel from the rear door, opting instead to place it subtly under the floor.
To allow for easy access, the new Honda CR-V 2009 has five large doors. The hatchback is ideal for loading luggage into the roomy boot.
While the different trim levels are very similar in exterior design, there are a few small differences. Even though the RVi is the most basic trim level, it has an impressive array of features, such as 17-inch steel wheels and keyless entry. The RVSi is equipped with alloy wheels, a sun roof and rear tinted glass. The top-of-the-line Honda CR-V i-CTDi has upgraded exterior trimmings.
Interior specifications
The interior is where the new Honda CR-V 2009 really starts to shine. Not only is there enough space to fit the family, but there is plenty of room for their luggage. The rear seat is designed for comfort and can recline, as well as slide forwards and backwards to increase leg room or make additional space for luggage.
The rear seat can also be folded away to increase the already impressive cargo compartment for camping trips or long journeys that require additional room. At its most expansive, the CR-V 2009 can transport up to 73 cubic feet of cargo. Those who transport pets can rest assured that when the rear seat is folded away there are no dangerous holes in the floor.
Perhaps the reason for the CR-V 2009’s popularity is due to its parent-friendly design sensibilities. Its large doors and lightweight rear liftgate are ideal for parents with babies or toddlers who often have to load children’s belongings and prams.
Moreover, throughout the new Honda CR-V, there are numerous bins, cubbies and cupholders that are ideal for when you’re transporting children. Honda knows its customer base and has added a special “conversation” mirror that allows the driver to keep an eye on young passengers without taking his or her attention away from the road ahead.
The steering controls have been ergonomically located in order to provide drivers with a pleasant driving experience. All controls are logically positioned and within easy reach of the driver.
The LX and EX trim levels come with quality cloth seating, while the EX-L comes with authentic leather seats.
Engine and performance
Car reviewers have noted how well the new Honda CR-V compensates for rough patches in the road. While the CR-V 2008 or 2009 is larger than many passenger vehicles, its engine is powerful enough to provide you and your family with a smooth ride, even when loaded to capacity.
All trim levels come with a 123-KW, four-cylinder engine and five-speed automatic transmission. While all trim levels are equipped with front-wheel drive, four-wheel drive is also an option (at an additional cost).
By moving the spare wheel from the rear door to inside the floor, Honda has lowered the CR-V’s centre of gravity, improving the vehicle’s performance. While the CR-V 2008/2009 is larger than most passenger vehicles on the road, it handles surprisingly well.
Honda takes the safety of your family very seriously and the new Honda CR-V is designed to be as safe as possible. Its Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) incorporates traction control and antilock brakes, which gives drivers additional control on slippery roads and in rainy weather. Other safety features include front-seat side airbags and side curtain airbags that run along the length of your vehicle.
When crash tested, the CR-V performed exceptionally well - protecting passengers in staged collisions - proving that it is one of the safest vehicles in its class, even when encountering extreme circumstances such as colliding with a stationary object.
