Buying a car is not only one of the most important practical decisions in a person’s life — it is also one of the most important financial decisions. Since most people cannot afford to buy a new automobile outright, dealers offer a number of financing options to make their stock accessible and affordable.
CMH Honda Menlyn has highlighted the key fundamentals one would need to know when considering vehicle finance.
First things first is considering your budget, how much will you be able to pay on a monthly basis for the vehicle.
Banks generally recommend that the price of your car should not be more than 30% of your annual gross salary, and your monthly costs should be no more than 10%. You can lower your monthly premiums by putting down a greater deposit for the vehicle.
The next thing to consider is the interest rate you will be paying for your new vehicle. The interest rate is the amount (or fee) charged by your bank or lending agency of your choosing to borrow the money for your new car. Interest rates can vary widely from lender to lender based on how much of a financial risk they think you are based on your credit rating.
There are two types of interest rates – linked and fixed.
A fixed rate means you will be charged the same agreed-upon rate for the duration of the loan and your monthly instalment will stay the same.
A linked rate means that the rate is linked to the prime lending rate of South Africa, so when this increases, so will your instalment. When it decreases, you’ll pay less.
You can decide on the payment duration, the longer the payment term the more money you’ll end up paying in interest fees.
The next thing to consider is if you would like to have a balloon payment.
A balloon payment is a lump sum owed to the lender at the end of a loan term after all regular monthly repayments have been made. This allows you to repay only part of the principal of your loan over its term, reducing your monthly repayments in exchange for owing the lender a lump sum at the end of the loan term.
The primary benefit of a balloon payment is that you’ll pay less on your monthly repayments throughout the lifetime of the loan. This in turn can provide a range of additional benefits, such as increasing affordability and maximum loan size, assisting with cash flow management, and more closely matching the repayment of the loan’s principal with the vehicle’s value over time.
The last thing to contemplate when purchasing a vehicle is the insurance. Vehicle insurance is not include in the finance.
Car insurance is a contract between you and the insurance company that protects you against financial loss in the event of an accident or theft. In exchange for your paying a premium, the insurance company agrees to pay your losses as outlined in your policy.

Euro NCAP has created the five-star safety rating system to help consumers, their families and businesses compare vehicles more easily and to help them identify the safest choice for their needs. The safety rating is determined from a series of vehicle tests, designed and carried out by Euro NCAP.
CMH Honda The Glen is proud to announce that the CR-V joins the Jazz, HR-V and Civic in Honda’s range of cars that got a five star Euro NCAP rating. The SUV achieved 93% in adult occupant safety and 83% in child occupant safety, while the safety assist score stands at 76% and the vulnerable road users rating is 70%.
The CR-V has a unique body structure that provides class-leading rigidity and stiffness. The model also comes with a comprehensive suite of active safety technologies.
Honda’s next-generation ACE (Advanced Compatibility Engineering) body structure has been incorporated into the car. This employs a network of connected structural elements to distribute collision energy more evenly, which in turn helps reduce the forces transferred to the passengers when an impact occurs, providing superior front, side and rear crash-worthiness.<
According to the Euro NCAP report, “The passenger compartment of the CR-V remained stable in the frontal offset test. Dummy readings indicated good protection of the knees and femurs of the driver and passenger.” In addition, the protection of the passenger dummy was “good for all critical body areas.” The report went on to say that in the full-width rigid barrier test, protection of the driver and rear passenger was “good or adequate for all critical body areas.”
Honda is a vehicle you can trust through and through. Come into CMH Honda The Glen and test the Honda CR-V’s safety features for yourself.
Honda has several safety systems available and come standard on many vehicles which assist in keeping you and all of your passengers safe.
CMH Honda The Glen has highlighted a few of the safety features you can expect when purchasing selected Honda’s
Honda Sensing is a suite of safety technologies that can be added to several Honda vehicles. It’s currently available on the 2017 and 2018 Honda Accord, Civic, Clarity Hybrid, CR-V, Fit, Odyssey, Pilot, and Ridgeline models.
The Honda Sensing Suite offers drivers plenty of unbelievable features such as lane departure warning, which alerts you when you begin to drift from your lane. If you do not react to the lane departure warning, the Honda Sensing system will then use the lane keeping assistance. This system automatically adjusts your steering wheel if you begin to drift too far into another lane without using your indicators.
Another safety technology that you get with the Honda Sensing system is road departure mitigation. Similar to lane departure, this system alerts you or corrects your steering if you begin to drift out of the lane and onto the road’s shoulder.
The system also includes adaptive cruise control to help you stay focused while you drive long distances, collision mitigating braking, and forward collision warning, which help you avoid a potential collision.
There are a few other systems that can be upgrade once you have installed the Honda Sensing Suite. One of those systems is LaneWatch. With this system, every time you indicate, a camera on that wing mirror is activated whereby live video is displayed on the centre console’s display screen.
This system allows you to see almost four times more than if you simply looked into the mirror, and helps you change lanes with confidence. LaneWatch is currently available on 2017 Honda Fit, Civic, Accord, Clarity, HR-V, Pilot, Odyssey, and Ridgeline models.
Blind Spot Information System
The Blind Spot Information System is another fantastic way to help you see what’s in your blind spot. If you opt not to have LaneWatch, this system is a great alternative. When you put your turn signal on, the vehicle will use a sensor to detect if there is another vehicle or object in your blind spot. If it detects something in the way, it will make a loud beeping sound so that you can avoid any possible collision. This system is currently available on 2017 Odyssey, Ridgeline, Pilot, and CR-V models.
Cross Traffic Monitor
The Cross Traffic Monitor system includes a multi-angle camera that is mounted on the rear of the vehicle. Whenever you put the vehicle in reverse, the camera turns on and streams video on your centre console touchscreen.
In addition to showing you what is behind you from several different angles, the Cross Traffic Monitor system also alerts you if it senses an object in your path. If you begin to get too close to something as you are backing up, the system will alert you with a loud beeping sound. This system is currently available on the 2017 Ridgeline, CR-V, and Pilot vehicles.
Honda works hard to give you technology systems that help make driving easier while keeping you safer on the road.

The event ended with an elegant dinner party, prize giving which handed out by our Dealer Principal Paul Francisco and drinks with all proceeds going towards the Pink Phoenix foundation and also gave the entrants some time to network and socialise.
The rear Magic Seat of the 2018 Honda Jazz (and several previous model years) offers drivers four distinctive configurations. While many small cars will offer 60/40 folding rear seats, the Honda Jazz Magic Seat goes far beyond that.
With seats down and seatback up in the second row, the Honda Jazz can hold five passengers in plenty of comfort.
The rear seats fold mostly flat, which allows this hatchback to hold up to 393 litres of luggage and supplies or a mountain bike without having to remove the front tyre in the HR-V.
Unlike most other vehicles, the Jazz’s Magic Seat bottom can fold up to accommodate tall items like bicycles or potted plants.
The front seats of the 2018 Honda Jazz can fold flat to line up with the rear seats to provide a luxurious lounging area.
While the Honda Jazz and HR-V does a great job using the Magic Seat for maximum effect, other Honda vehicles have similar advantages. The Honda CR-V SUV and BR-V MPV have foldable rear seats to allow drivers and passengers to stow taller and more items.
