On the 27th of November this annual biker charity event has become a classic! Launched in 1982 (simultaneously in Cape Town and Johannesburg) by the Italian Motorcycle Owners Club (IMOC), the Toy Run is the largest motorcycling-related charity event in Southern Africa and Honda Wings Menlyn proudly took part in this year’s Toy Run Nationwide event delivering toys to kids for 35 years.
The Departure took place from Kolonnade Retail Park, Sefako Makgatho Drive, and the huge group drove through to Hartbeespoort Holiday Resort (Impala Bike Rally site), Old Rustenburg Road, Brits, Northwest.
The Gauteng Toy Run collects in the region of 22 000 toys on the day and these are redistributed to service clubs and requesting charities that evening. This enables many of the less fortunate children to receive their gifts in time for Christmas.
These days kids need more than just love, they need toys, stationary, toiletries, books, sports equipment and many other items too and it was a privilege to be part of such a great movement.
These are a few of the groups that receive toys from Toy Run to distribute in their areas in the spirit of giving at Christmas:
Dal Fouche Community Organisation, Mekayla Memorial Street Party, We Care, Christways Religious and Social Services, Igugulethu Place of Safety, Kungwini Welfare Organisation.

We would like to welcome our Newest appointed Pre-Owned Sales Executive Manesh Moodley to the Honda Menlyn Team. We asked Manesh a few key points about himself and what drives him on a daily basis and most important why customers should consider buying a Pre-Owned vehicle from him at Honda Menlyn.
Why did you decide to become a Sales Representative?
I think that my patience helps me be a good salesperson. I find that I have made some of my best sales when I have taken the time to let the customer weigh their decision carefully; ask as many questions as they wished. I have always had a passion for sales and have been doing sales all of my life.
How long have you been a Sales Representative and Why do you enjoy it so much?
I have been a sales representative for 9 years now. I’m an ambitious person, and that helps me in sales. I really like to make sure that my customers are thoroughly informed, and that I provide the best possible service. I feel like I’ve done a good job when I have made a sale that required using all my talents.
What would you say are your strong attributes?
I am very detail-oriented, and that helps me in sales in many ways. I make sure that I know everything there is to know about the product I’m selling, so that I can answer any questions a customer may have to their satisfaction. I also like to know my territory in and out, and I like to find out about my customers personally, so I can better serve them.

Honda was founded in October 1946 by Soichiro Honda and Takeo Fujisawa and then incorporated 24 September 1948. The International Headquarters are now located in Minato, Tokyo, Japan. Honda is primarily known as a manufacturer of automobiles, aircraft, motorcycles, and power equipment. Besides their core car and motorcycle businesses, Honda also makes garden equipment, marine engines, personal watercraft, power generators, and other products. With this impressive line-up of products, it’s easy to see why Honda became the second largest Japanese vehicle manufacturer in 2001 and the eighth largest vehicle manufacturer in the world. Honda has also been involved with artificial intelligence/robotics research and released their ASIMO robot in 2000. Source https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honda#Products
Honda Pinetown Heritage Day Cookbook
As mentioned above, here are a few of our favourite recipes for you to try out this Heritage Day. 1. Oxtail Potjie
Potjiekos dates back to the Voortrekker era where large stews and the like were easy and necessary while travelling long distances. There is nothing better on a cold Winter evening than digging into a proper Oxtail Potjie or stew (preferably cooked in a potjie pot over an open flame!) This is truly comfort food at it’s best. Rich, thick sauce. Veggies and of course tender and fatty oxtail. Please see the link below for the recipe. http://www.food24.com/Recipes-and-Menus/Easy-Weekday-Meals/Oxtail-potjie-20110223-2
This is a traditional English breakfast, but can be eaten anytime on the day with different sides. Scrambled eggs for breakfast, and then peas and gravy for dinner. Extremely popular still and super-easy to make. Please see the link below for the recipe. http://www.food24.com/Recipes/Toad-in-the-hole-20091103-4
3. Vetkoek and Mince
Another firm traditional favourite. Vetkoek is essentially fried bread dough and in the Afrikaaner community is served with either sweet or savoury fillings. Very similar is the amagwinya which is never served with fillings but rather as a side dish in the African community. Please see the link below for the recipe. http://www.food24.com/Recipes-and-Menus/Entertaining/Bite-sized-vetkoek-with-curried-ostrich-mince-20150504
4. Lamb Briyani
Briyani, wow. Just that one word gets most people salivating. The Indian community make the BEST Briyani ever and we all love it when someone brings extra to work. The exact origins of this dish are debatable, but we do know it came from the east with the multitude of spices, meats and of course rice. Whether its mutton, chicken, veg or fish, you’ll always have space for more. Please see the link below for the recipe. http://www.food24.com/Recipes/Lamb-briyani-20091103
5. Sajjige (So-jee)
Sajjige is a Cuisine of India and a kesar/saffron flavoured variation of this is the Kesari sheera. Sajjige is served as a breakfast or a dessert item. The normal variety though is unflavoured and prepared with just semolina, sugar, ghee, and milk. (Wikipedia) This is a favoured dessert of many of our employees, they can remember eating this all the way back to their childhood. http://www.food24.com/Recipes/Semolina-soji-20120411
These are but a few of the many recipe ideas that were submitted, but we will be posting more Honda Pinetown Favourites throughout Heritage month. Spring Day Celebration
September is also the month of new beginnings with Spring having just begun. Honda Pinetown decked the halls (so to speak) with bright colourful decorations in honour of the first weekend of spring. What a festive atmosphere! References: Wikipedia Food24.com
CMH Honda Menlyn has been involved in running the monthly track days for more than 10 years now. This event takes place at Zwartkops race track once a month on a Sunday. Zwartkops raceway has all facilities available like electricity in the pit area (tyre wormers etc.), ablution facilities and a restaurant with under roof parking.
Customers get the opportunity to ride their motorcycles under a controlled and safe environment in order to get to know their motorcycles and gain confidence whilst riding their new motorcycles. Fully trained instructors are available to assist in this training.
Riders and customers fill the pits from 07h00 until 09h00. At 09h15 all riders attend a riders briefing to fill them in on information regarding the rules and processes.
Riders are divided into four groups A,B,C and D. Group A riders are normally the open race class and usually consists of full spec race bikes with highly experienced riders. These riders are also allowed to pass each other anywhere on the track. Group B riders are riders that have mostly normal road bikes and are also experienced. These riders are only allowed to pass on the outside when it is safe. Group C riders are less experienced and are not allowed to overtake in corners at all. This group is much slower and are also allowed to carry pillions. The riders in group D are the novice riders and also people that has never been on a race track. For these riders there is a classroom session first thing after riders briefing. During this session riders are briefed about safety, corner speed, riding styles and also the track itself.
Riders in classes B, C, and D gets instruction from allocated instructors wearing bright yellow bibs. These instructors ensure safety on the track and also control the speed during such a session. They observe riders mistakes and train on and off the track. Ground marshals are placed at all corners with flags and two way radio’s to monitor and control safety. There is also a fully equipped clinic with two medics and one ambulance on duty to assist should a rider be in need of medical assistance. Safety is the one extremely high priority and riders are disciplined without hesitation should rules not be obeyed. It is emphasized clearly that this day is not a race day and the use of any timing devises are strictly prohibited.
